Abydos Tour
135km from Luxor lies one of Ancient Egypt's oldest cities - Abydos. Considered one of the most important archaeological sites in Egypt, the sacred city of Abydos was the site of many ancient temples and burial grounds where the great Pharaohs of Ancient Egypt were entombed.
One of Abydos's more significant sights today is the memorial temple of Seti I, with it's walls containing an inscription from the 19th dynasty known as the Abydos King List - a brilliant table containing cartouches of the names of the 76 kings of Ancient Egypt.
Built by King Seti I, and completed by King Ramsess II, the temple of Seti became the centre of worship for the Lord of the Underworld and god of death - Isis and Osiris.
The Mysterious Hieroglyphs in the Temple of Seti I
We know the Ancient Egyptians were well ahead of their time, building the Great pyramids thousands of years ago with such precision that even today they would be a great achievement, as well as reports of amazing technology being employed in them such as electric torches!
Some of the hieroglyphs carved over an arch in the Temple of Seti I have been interpreted in some circles as depicting modern technology such as helicopters, submarines, U.F.O's and battle tanks - leading to the question what else did these amazing people know?

Around town you'll notice the the changing face of Egypt throughout history, with Ancient Egyptian culture giving way to Roman influences which can be seen from the time Egypt became a Roman possession, and with it Christianity, and then onto the current named City of Denderah, renamed by the Otterman Empire.
On our tour of Dendera from Luxor we'll visit the best preserved temple complex in all of Upper Egypt - the Temple of Hathor, goddess of love and joy.
